Colin Bertrand Penfold was born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on 14th June 1925. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1943 and spent some time in Palestine during the British Mandate. On leaving the R.A.F. he married in 1947. The majority of his working career was spent with the Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society where he was an insurance agent. On 30th June 1973, whilst preparing to go on holiday with his family, he collapsed on New Beckenham railway station and died on his way to Bromley Hospital.
